Things Are Far Too Serious...

Published over 2 years ago • 1 min read

Hey everyone!

I hope you're doing well. It's been almost two months since I last sent out this newsletter. While I have every good intention of writing on the first and third Sunday of the month, it just hasn't been happening. I decided not to feel guilty about all the things I can't accomplish and focus instead on doing what I can do well.

Things are far too serious not to

  1. Continue to take precautions

In India, we're still grappling with Covid, although things are much better than they were in April. However, looking around, one wonders why people still go unmasked, in crowded places and have no concept of social distancing! Not much that we can do, except be really careful.

2. Stand up and speak out for what's right

The political scene makes things worse. One of the saddest things that happened recently was the murder by the State of an innocent man who stood up for the rights of the poor. Yes, Fr Stan Swamy, an elderly Jesuit priest, died in custody, wrongly accused of being a Marxist supporter. His grace and acceptance was something else. He said, ‘I am ready to pay the price, whatever be it.’ In his death, I hope the conscience of a larger number of us has been awakened to stand up for what is right!

3. Be grateful

Things have been fine with us - are for that we're grateful. I wrote a post last month about cultivating gratitude during the pandemic . Gratitude is something that we can keep working on.

Incidentally, what's the weirdest thing you are thankful for? Elastic waists? Not having to study maths again? ;)

This brings me to the next point - laughter!

4. Look for humour

One of the things we might have lost during these trying times is our sense of humour! And that's something we really can't afford to lose, can we? Whenever I feel a bit down, I watch funny animal videos and that's when I came across this lovely guy - Limbani! He's a young chimp being brought up in a nature reserve and he's an absolute darling! You can find him on Instagram,

And of course watching children say and do the 'darndest things' brings smiles and gladdens the heart. Here's a clever little girl who is soon going to run circles around her parents!

There are a lot more things I'd like to talk about - cooking, gardening, reading, writing, but I'll stop here.

I'd love to hear from you - tell me how you are doing, what you'd like to read about , what keeps you sane and at peace during the pandemic. I promise to write back!

I signed off my last newsletter with an Irish phrase, this time I'll use a French one!

Bonne chance à tous et à très bientôt

Corinne

Hello everyone First of all, let me wish you and your loved ones a very happy and blessed New Year. It's been too long since I sent out a newsletter. Much has happened since I last wrote one, but most of it has been within me, so it's difficult to share specifically! Suffice to say, that I've gained more clarity about my writing and what I'm going to be focusing on. I've been taking small steps towards changing my outlook and my habits. Microsteps, as Arianna Huffington describes in her...

Hey everyone, I hope you all are doing well. To my readers in India, especially, I hope you are safe and are keeping yourself mentally and emotionally strong in the midst of the utter chaos around us. To those in other parts of the world, I hope you've taken your two shots and are slowly starting to go out. In any case, please be careful every one of you. In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside you. --Deepak Chopra I've found that in the midst of all that's happening around,...

Hello! Thank you for continuing to stay on as a subscriber to my newsletter. I hope you're doing well and staying safe whichever part of the world you are in. Lately, I’ve been thinking on whether a person or a group having good intentions is enough, especially when those good intentions don’t always have good consequences. I have loads of good intentions – I want to exercise daily, I want to paint regularly, I want to write everyday, I want to work towards publishing a book….on and on it...
